The fourth edition of the Cambridge Star Atlas continues in the tradition of its predecessors in that the star charts are well drawn and clearly labelled. However this new edition also includes some new features not seen in previous editions. These include a map of the Moon for both normal and reversed views for observers with binoculars and small telescopes, along with maps showing .
There are more deep sky objects plotted than on the Star Atlas I find these charts very easy to use. For a observer of faint fuzzies and larger aperture may prefer Tri-Star Atlas C over this one, but it is a good alternative between Sky Atlas and Tri-Star Atlas C. Taking that enormous amount of observations and getting data points for all those observations requires a great deal of manpower. Therefore the researchers enlisted the help of amateur astronomers, like you and me, through the AAVSO (American Association of Variable Star Observers) to help take all those observations and get those data points.
Founded in , the AAVSO boasts over members and observers and is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to variable star observation. This timely book marks the AAVSO's centennial year, presenting an authoritative and accurate history of this important association. Writing in Author: Thomas R. Williams, Michael Saladyga. Beta Cephei (β Cephei, abbreviated Beta Cep, β Cep) is a triple star system of the third magnitude in the constellation of on parallax measurements obtained during the Hipparcos mission, it is approximately light-years distant from the is the prototype of the Beta Cephei variable stars.. It consists of a binary pair (designated Beta Cephei A) Constellation: Cepheus.

There is this Aavso Variable Star Atlas, in my time (a while back) that was a standard work for variable star observers. Now I do not find any reference to this atlas on the Aavso website, and when I do a search on Amazon I only get referred to used volumes in.
The star is exactly in the middle of the telescope field. If I want some hard copy close-up star field around the variable I just print one out from the AAVSO website. The print out can be tailored to my exact field of view so it is easy to identify the correct star.

It would be nice to have a book or atlas in front of me that shows me the mag number of the most important stars in the constellation to use as comparison stars.
If the star was a variable star, maybe it could show the mag range. Actually I would really like an atlas that doesn't even show the variable star mag's, only the non-variable mags.
